invitan: (Akira)

It's been a long time since I last read a >100-page-long piece, and moreover, it's an AU: In the Eye of the Storm by RaVeN (Warning: mature content!).

Nope, I'm not going to add this to rec list, since I'm not that fascinated with it and it's abandoned already, but I must say I'm quite impressed by it somehow. This piece also sets the record as the fic containing the greatest amount of foul language I've ever read. But I guess it just cannot be helped - it's about pirates and all! I'm quite amazed how natural all these words flow in the piece and must acknowledge that the author has done a great job.

Okay, so here's a quick summarize. Hikaru's a pirate (the captain in fact!) with a foul mouth and harsh behavior (and a BEARD!!).  Akira's an aristocrat (or a prince, or something like that, since he's the heir to the 'Touya dynasty') with an extremely feminine and beautiful but delicate figure (and LONG LONG HAIR???). Waya is Hikaru's first mate as well as his most trusted friend, and also the gayish character. Naruto (yes, it's a crossover, but not that much anyway) is one of Hikaru's crewman and quite gay as well. There're two OCs, one is Akira's first guard and closest friend who apparently is senselessly in love with Akira, and one is Hikaru's deckboy - a blond - who somehow falls for that guard. There's also Sasuke (well, I guess he is Sasuke since there's Naruto, but actually he's never been referred as other than Uchiha) who is Akira's second guard (I guess). Okay, so it's more like a character introduction than a summary, so I'd be moving on quickly. It's quite obvious actually, that Hikaru mistook Akira for a girl upon seeing him for the first time, so Hikaru decided to simply invade Akira's ship and take him away and make him his sex toy and that's all it was about.

*Sigh at the nonsense above. 6 character introductory sentences, 1 transition and 1 sentence for summary. I'm such a genius ahaha*

I must say one of the reasons I keep on reading this fic despite its extreme OOCness is the characterization. Well, yeah, it's a complete exaggeration of the characters' traits. Hikaru is a huge, rough, foul-mouth, possessive and senselessly perverted bastard who has this hobby to torture others. Akira is a delicate, easy-to-break, ill, pale, feminine Yagami (the name of the first guard)'s boy. So many things that can be found in my *unbearable* list. (I'm in favor of AkiHika rather than HikaAki after all, and I can hardly stand a feminine Akira). So maybe if these details are put in another non-AU fic, I will certainly never set an eye on it. However, this is an AU, and an AU apply a different standard of OOC, at least for me. In this case, Hikaru is a captain of a pirate ship, so I guess such an image would be the most suitable for a pirate. And Akira, oh well, I must say I'm a bit annoyed with this Akira - too delicate, too directionless - but I guess it fits as well. And this Hikaru also gets sick with Akira's attitude, so it's alright (rather than a madly-in-love Hikaru with-no-reason). I don't hate this Akira, but I just don't like the mental image of tiny, feeble, pale Akira. In the canon he's even taller than Hikaru. Anyway, I have to admit that the author has been quite successful on the characterization - I have quite a vivid mental image in my mind just how the characters look like, sound like, even smell like. I especially like Waya in here, although he's quite OOC as well (Strange, it never crosses my mind that Waya can be so gay - all the time I've been thinking he must have been extremely straight!). He's just... great, I mean, really great. Respectable, even, although I don't think such word can be applied to a person who gropes other males and treasures every touch he gets.

One more reason why I keep on reading, although it's almost embarrassing to admit, is the smut. As mention above, Akira is abused as Hikaru's sex toy, so, yeah, there's a lot of smut. It's certainly not that graceful smut as in "The Extent of Denial" (my god, that fic's sure the purest smut in the whole world - no foul language inside out, the author doesn't even use the word 'a**' but 'backside' instead!!), but it's not that common 'first pain then pleasure' and 'lubricant' and 'condom'  when the two characters who never do that before suddenly become experts as 'it comes so naturally' either. When reading it, I feel that such lines are specially written for the fic only. There's no feeling of familiarity, no sense of imitation. It feels sheer original, and experienced, and completely precise how it should be when a resistant and complete virgin do it with a complete straight. And really, it's not plain sex, it's not for the sake of fangirl's satisfaction only, but it does help to develop the characterization a great deal.

I still don't add this fic to my favorite though, because it's foul, and the plot is not really my taste. It's still a pleasure to read such a well-written AU, of course, and I really, really would like to know how it ends.

*Another great AU that I've just recently finished (not quite): Sam Shindou, private five. The writing style is really superb, but sadly I have troubles figuring out what 'private five' means. A private detective, I guess?
