GRAND SLAM WRITING JAM!
Weekly Go is celebrating its 15th Anniversary with an essay contest! The grand prize winner will receive a fabulous trip to Seoul, Korea! The topic of the essay: an experience that changed your go. All submissions must be typed and double-spaced.
This fic is absolutely the best HnG humor fic I have read so far. It's utterly hilarious and full of quotes. Oh,
flonnebonne and her magnificent dialogues ^__^ The characters are nicely developed along with the humor: retarded and distracted Hikaru, Akira and his imaginary lavender apron, absolutely genius Waya (I swear his submission deserves the grand prize of all time!!), or even Fuku, Ochi, Nase... Their interactions are totally adorable (rofl at Hikaru's fantasizing about Akira and the my-life-does-not-revolve-around-Touya-but-it-totally-does).
Yet the thing that I love most about this fic is, unlike the usual humor and cracks, that it has this canon feeling. There's no OOCness, no awkward sense of humor that these types usually generate. All the characters feel right, and the fic has an underlying theme beyond all the comedies. Hikaru's reminiscene about Sai, about his journey so far, about him and Akira... everything is just beautiful.
The only disappointing thing about this masterpiece is that it's still incomplete. I so wanna know the final result of the competition >__< And if this will turn into slash eventually >__< (With all the hints scattering around, I would be stunned if it managed to remain gen!)
2. Sam Shindou, Private Five by

I'm fond of AU lately. Especially those AU in an absolutely unrelated universe to HnG universe. Among those I love detective! AU and sword! AU best. This AU series is categorized in the first, and an absolutely briliant detective! AU.
Actually I read this quite some time ago and have meant to rec this ever since. The tone is just perfect and the plot is well-thought. It might get a little bit creepy - imagine all our beloved HnG's characters in such roles... Hikaru as a private detective, Kaga as a violent bastard police, Akira gets involved in political affair and becomes a murderer, Mitani's a malewhore, Isumi's a creepy landlord and Waya as his most loyal dog... All the roles are both perfect and scary simultaneously. Who could think that HnG can get that dark in this new universe?

My name's Shindou. Sam Shindou. I'm a private five. Some days it just doesn't pay to get out of bed.
